What to write next…
In the last few months I’ve been in a weird place. I’ve been reading a lot, and doing that makes me want to write a lot. But writing is hard, and taxing, and the absolute hardest part is starting something new. I have a thousand ideas, but committing to one is far from easy.
I have been writing a little of The Voice of Whisper Pritchett, a fantasy western that deals with loss and the nature of right and wrong through the lens of an oppressed woman and her adopted, mute father. The magic is cool, the world is close to home, and the family dynamic is awesome, but something about it just doesnt feel right. In the last year I have scrapped and started over three times. I know something is there, I just dont know what it’s missing.
Alternatively, I’ve restarted The Ringer’s League, a mash up between Animorphs, Pokemon, and Hunger Games. It has a ninties aesthetic, and is really fun to write, dealing with legacy and what it means to be judged based on your families history. I think it’s going to turn out being my fourth novel, but I don’t know.
I guess I feel stuck.
I have queries out for my third book, but only a few. I’m confident in how good it is, but I’m not sure it works for the current landscape of the publishing industry. I guess I’ll have to wait and and find out.
For what I am currently reading, I am working through book three of The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer. I’ve seen people say it’s the most boring of the series, but I disagree. I’m really enjoying it.
I don’t know if anyone will read these, but if you do, thank you. I appreciate the support, even if I don’t see it. If you have any opinions on what idea I should stick with, let me know.
